Review of Monsters (2010) by Julie S — 18 Nov 2011
Fairly awesome. More movies should be made like this-grab a camera, some nikon lenses, 2 actors and hike it over to Mexico to shoot whatever/whomever. Freakin' beautiful cinematography (but perhaps easy enough to achieve with sunlit Central America as your backdrop and two hotties as your leads) and fully effective 'Sense of Impending Doom'.
Loved the blink and you'll miss them effects of alien tentacles against a lightening-storm sky *shudder*. Interesting choice to use a real life couple for 'guaranteed' chemistry, and I'm not too sure how well that worked.
. It was believable but they weren't crackling off the screen at me. Then again, going for realism, it was probably for the best that their love story was more subdued and hotted up with time. I was hoping for District 9 in Mexico and it was fairly similar in tone; dire, almost-subtle, gritty.
Acting was solid and towards the end we are treated to a hot love-scene between the 'monsters' - Sexy and stupendous.
