Yes this isn't the most original story to come out in 2017.
It wasn't even a big box office success when it came out, but in the long run "Monster Trucks" is an enjoyable flick for anyone looking for a fun adventure / comedy that doesn't have to revolve around a love story or character self identity issues. Lucas Til was a very enjoyable leading man and I thought that the cinematography was very well done. Overall this is a film I would consider owning and watching on a movie night.
