Review of Monster House (2006) by Ashley G — 01 Feb 2011
Ah...yes. Monster House was released while I was back in High School, but it brought back my memories of childhood. I never tried to fight a monster house, but it made me remember how awesome children's films can be.
A lot more clever then most family films, Monster House follows three kids as they discover that a house that was perviously occupied by a cranky old man (played great by the underrated Steve Buscemi) is now resurrected in the form of a haunted house that lives and breathes.
Most movies that place kids in the lead always have dumb results, but this one somehow downplays them well enough to make them interesting. Some critics have criticized it for being too scary for real children, but I think they can use some darker material.
I would say that this is a perfect spooky movie to start with if your not a horror fan. Monster House delivers the humor and smart story with great result. I hope adults will give this a watch. I think they will be pleasantly surprised.
