Review of Monster House (2006) by Marcus 丟꽤퍔柄 W — 04 Mar 2009
Surprisingly strong and, once it gets going, adventurous, family spook film which offers up some nifty ideas and daringly brave plot turns. Although the film's opening may put adults off with its loud, crash-whallop beginning coupled with weird, almost stop-motion-inspired animation and its tendency to let the spinning, craning, moving, circling camera do the acting for the CGI characters.
..the film turns - wonderfully - into a demented, twisted and genuinely spooky (but not scary) thrill-ride that could parallel with films like "The Goonies" or "The Burbs". Coupled with an above-average (i.
E. non-insultingly stupid) script and a few clever animation ideas, this film proves to be a very enjoyable distraction from the formulaic, homogenized, CGI kids film rubbish that we're subjected to every few months.
Worth your time if you can make it through the first half and definitely great for kids. In fact it could only be improved if the whole film was done in live-action.
