Review of Monsoon Wedding (2001) by Wendy S — 18 Mar 2010
This is the Indian version of Robert Altmans 70's cult classic, A Wedding, where we experience all the upper middle class family drama leading up to a traditional Indian wedding. It is a ride of color, music, dance and the jarring mix of languages, ancient Indian traditions and modern, Western culture.
Favorite scene: father Lalit defends cousin Ria's claims of an uncle's pedophilia by kicking him out of the festivities, instead of allowing the whole family to suffer in silence.
