Review of Monsieur Verdoux (1947) by Rafaele L — 26 Mar 2008
If ever there was an artist in films that could blend comedy with profound ideas, it was Chaplin. Like Dickens, Chaplin got a bit bleak in his old days, and who can blame him?. Monsieur Verdoux is the sum of all ideas he ever had, and the first artistic movie of his in the very truest sense of the word.
Contains some scenes that cannot be left out on ANY list of greatest ever put on film. A genius at his most darkest hour, and an artist at his most subtlest.
