Review of Monsieur Verdoux (1947) by M D — 15 May 2009
A far cry from the silent slapstick days of Chaplinâ??s most popular and beloved films but perhaps one of the most blatant calls for attention to the state of the world. While the movie itself is a trifle laborious, the final minutes express important reflections from a man who spent much of his time and energy on the wrong end of the moral spectrum.
Taking into consideration the inclusion of its moral sermon it becomes a film worth considering despite its rather unentertaining content for a Chaplin film.
