Review of Monsieur Verdoux (1947) by Dimitris S — 31 Jul 2010
This is mostly great. Chaplin is surprisingly good in a talkie, something that many of his compatriots weren't able to accomplish. This has his as always great physical comedy but it's buttressed by a great concept, until the final act.
From the dictator montage on, the film becomes preachy and generally unfunny (except for a few moments). It is a really lame ending for an otherwise great movie.
