Review of Monsieur Lazhar (2011) by Deandra T — 17 May 2012
Not particularly entertaining, but nevertheless a poignant glimpse into how people deal with grief and tragedy. Its independent sensibilities show in the restrained treatment of the story, which avoids making sense of the events it portrays.
Personally, I didn't find it emotionally satisfying. But it does raise some thought-provoking considerations about immigration, education, and what it means to grieve.
