Review of Monsieur Lazhar (2011) by Jason D — 15 Sep 2012
I will be short. This was a very moving film about dealing with loss, and how differant people, children or adults, deal with it in their own way.
The acting was great especially from Bachir Lazhar the teacher brought in at short notice to replace a teacher who left tragically.
Also it was truly a work of art the way the writer or director/producer, intertwined the new teachers past and how his background and ethnicity kept him somewhat lost on one hand yet on the other hand had so much to offer the students by not being a traditional Canadian teacher.
For instance he was teaching 11-12 year olds Balzac and also the fact he was so bothered that the children were being taught English without first mastering French.
Those type of subtlties are what make this film endearing, and leaves the audience with an overall good feeling. Would definately reccomend.
