Review of Monsieur Ibrahim (2003) by James H — 05 Jul 2004
DVD First Viewing, 1 Dupeyron film seen.
Monsieur Ibrahim is a French film. No wonder it stumbles the moment the two lead characters leave Paris. I would have been satisfied with this film being only 70 minutes long, but instead it goes on for another 20 minutes and tries to jerk some tears out of us. I, for one, didn't get the least bit emotional. Not that the film is uninvolving, it just loses its direction once the characters leave Paris. Another thing that kept me amused during the film was the fact that it did take place (for the better part) in 1960s Paris, France. Just like the characters in The Dreamers. So I imagined their story taking place at the same time as Monsieur Ibrahim. And it got even funnier when I imagined both of those stories intersecting with Ashton Kutcher's in The Butterfly Effect.
