Review of Monkey Kung Fu (1979) by Eric H — 12 Oct 2014
So this is Monkey Kung Fu, a Shaw Brothers film that doesn't really involve anyone I'm familiar with, though the lead actor Ching Siu-Tung went on to direct some great movies like Duel to the Death, A Chinese Ghost Story, and the Swordsman trilogy, not to mention being the stunt coordinator for additional movies like The Killer, A Better Tomorrow II, Hero and many others.
Wow. Oh yes, the monkey thing. So this movie was good and I quite enjoyed the odd relationship between the two leads as they stumbled upon a kung fu manual from which they learn monkey kung fu. It's still not as good though as the legendary Lau Kar-Leung's Mad Monkey Kung Fu, which came out around the same time from the Shaw studio too.
