Review of Monkey Kingdom (2015) by Xavior M — 28 Jul 2015
Monkey Kingdom was a refreshing delight to watch as the 90 minute film took the audience through the life of a female monkey they named Maya and the other tribe members of this rarely seen species of monkeys. The characters seemed to be scripted right out of a Princess Fairy Tale book, with all the characteristics of a tale with the beautiful humble heroine, the wicked stepsisters, the evil king, the handsome prince, a battle with the enemy, but then one realizes that this is real life in Sri Lanka and the characters are not following a script. This was not animation. This was real life in the jungle.
I am sure most viewers see this film as another cute Disney entertainment unfolded around Earth Day celebratory events, but I saw much more than that. I saw the hand of God in action as He protected and provided for Maya each day as she struggled with being "lower class." Not able to eat what the upper class ate, yet she never was left hungry. God always gave her provision and insight into what and where to find food. In the end God rewarded her humbleness and perseverance. Just like in Fairy Tales, the good prevails, only this was not a fairy tale. If God provides for the "birds of the air," and the "lilies of the field", and the monkeys in the jungle, how much more will He provide for us humans? The producers did an incredible job of piecing the lives of these creatures to our viewing to provide education, entertainment, and perspective.
