Review of Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) by Imola L — 22 Mar 2009
It has to potential do be a great epic movie, but ... it fails. It never really takes off and it feels like there's a movie missing from the movie. We never find out how the pennyless family man becomes the head of an army.
Up until that I was willing to let go of minor facts like how the kid comes out of a freezing water or how he gets his new bow and arrows because it didn't really matter it wasn't the essence of the story but .
.. from nothing to go to the top, to be the head of an army I think it's crucial. And there's a movie right there that was missing. Conquering the world after that is easy. His character was very sketchy too.
His brother was more interesting to watch. The cinematography is stunning and costumes seem authentic not for moment feels staged or over the top. Apparently it's going to be a trilogy so let's wait and see what's next.
