Review of Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) by Breizh N — 18 Apr 2010
First and foremost, I should have seen this in the theater. this is a visual work of art. the shots are huge, the camera work is immaculate, this director is good.
Second, with all that said about the film's artistic integrity, the only reason I didn't rate it higher than I did was because it was working off of a story many already know well, and history has a way of shaping how you view stories where we already know the ending; despite knowing the story, I couldn't help but getting caught up in its sentiment, and if you have or wish to see the movie, you'll quickly agree.
Lastly, Mongol will keep you going from the first scene to the last. while i'm guessing that many will already know the story, this is probably the best film ever done on the subject.
P.s. this is such a beautiful artistic film, why did the movie people go with that ugly looking image as the movie poster?
