Moneyball follows the true story of the 2002 season of the Oakland Athletics who on the lowest payroll of all the teams in the major leagues successfully, under the control of general manager Billy Beane (Pitt) with the aid of Peter Brand (Hill) and his economics educated analysis of statistics, turned a written off team into a sensation.
The script is as tight and witty as Pitt's charismatic no-bullshit approach to baseball management is inspiring and humouress. His Oscar nod was well-deserved, this is Pitt at his best. Meanwhile Jonah Hill turns in a serious and dialed down showing what a great dramatic actor he can be (also Oscar nominated) and Philip Seymour Hoffman does what Philip Seymour Hoffman does best.
You need to know anything about baseball to enjoy this underdog story of one man's mission to not only win the series but to also change the face of the game he's given his whole life to (in one way or another: player, scout, gm).
