Review of Moneyball (2011) by Lloyd H — 12 Mar 2013
Moneyball is an engaging, intelligent and touching film based on the niche subject of Baseball, politics and all the antics and goings on behind the scenes and off the pitch. I personally have no knowledge of interest in Baseball, but Moneyball introduced me to a sport previously all but unknown to me.
Brad Pitt carries the film tremendously and gives a masterclass performance. Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman both give strong and understated performances. Jonah Hill's performance in particular is my favourite of his and he convincingly shows theres more to him than the silliness of Superbad.
His scenes with Brad Pitt are brilliantly scripted and thoroughly interesting, witty and understatedly comical. The highlight of this film is the script, the content is delivered brilliantly and it's balanced with comic relief perfectly.
Moneyball is quite simply a very well made film, it has the heart of other sporting movie greats and is very much something of an unsung hero.
