Review of Moneyball (2011) by Anthony K — 27 Jul 2014
I was hoping that one really would not need to have any affection for baseball to enjoy this movie (a la Angels in the Outfield or League of Their Own), leveraging the drama of the sport as a mirror for the protagonist's personal conflict.
Instead, baseball IS the source of drama and conflict, and everything is spelled out or said explicitly so as to cater to the outsiders to film and baseball. Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Bobby Kotick(?!) turn in strong performances, however, and the script is typically Sorkin-esque.
