Review of Money Talks (1997) by Ross M — 29 Jul 2009
A good, funny film. The Beverly Hills Cop of the 90's.
While it may be a bit cliched, the performances of Diet Eddie Murphey, Eddie Murphey Lite or also known as Chris Tucker and the brilliant Charlie Sheen who can play serious roles well (take Wall Street) and comedy (takle the brilliant TV show Two And A Half Men) make this woth while, along with some good video game mirroring car chases and a tense climax in a sports stadium.
The screenplay has its fair share of funny one liners and visual gags but are spolied often by the reccuring use of heard 'em before jokes but luckily you are too busy having fun to notice.
Brett Ratner directed the comedy and action scenes well but with the scenes inbetween he isn't so talented. However, I do now want to see Rush Hour as he proved here that he can make his films enjoyable and even though they obviously aren't perfect, they are never boring.
Not perfect as a film but perfect as entertainment, it is mostly gripping, mostly funny and it is sat perfectly in the comfort zone of those enjoyable buddy/cop thrillers.
