Review of Money Monster (2016) by Lincoln K — 13 May 2016
The film starts out promising enough with George Clooney right in his element as a cheesy tv personality with his money show and Julia Roberts as his director.. When a man with a gun shows up and takes over the studio ranting about evil wall street companies you could be forgiven for thinking the movie is a Bernie Sanders campaign commercial.
... and it does kindof go there for a bit... The suspense stuff works at the beginning until it starts to go off the rails in the second half when people stop acting believably. The cops come up with a stupid plan, Clooney and Roberts improbably start trying to help the guy and they wind up leaving the studio for a low key treck across the city that is really preposterous.
Dominic West as the evil wall street guy is just silly as none of his actions make any sense at all.. A wasted opportunity here.
