Review of Money Monster (2016) by Alvin Y — 23 Sep 2016
Money Monster isn't the Network or Wall Street or Dog Day Afternoon of the 21st century, but certainly the execution is pretty intense. Director Jodie Foster must have been thinking about and worried on the economic crisis the US face today, but she fails to give a message on the American system of money and labor.
Its focus is mostly on a particular big company rather than the whole country which could have been an intriguing and an interesting subject to tackle on. Clooney, O'Donell and Roberts all are terrific and definitely have a star charisma, but by the end it's all a Hollywood propaganda on the financial and media system of US.
The hostage taking situation like this has been done before and done better in some films, here it's just routined and tiresome but at least it's not something else. Again, it's just good at what it is outside but inside I'm not even thinking about it.
