Review of Money Monster (2016) by Beverly R — 18 May 2016
"Money Monster" is a financially driven drama about the host of a popular TV show (George Clooney) who gives stock tips to people. A surly investor named Kyle Budwell (Jack O' Connell) hijacks the show and Clooney after his investment with the corporation Ibis is lost.
It constituted his life savings, and he is at the end of his rope. Though the plot is not as fleshed out as it could be, I thought the performances of Clooney and Julia Roberts, who plays Clooney's director, are relevant and resonant.
The film is smart and explores some subversive topics that pervade the American financial system. Director Jodie Foster handles these transitions very deftly. The film is gripping and equally suspenseful.
It is a passable Wall Street thriller that asks some difficult but necessary questions --------------------------------------------------- B.
