Review of Money Monster (2016) by Samantha L — 12 May 2016
I saw this at the Director's Guild followed by a Q and A with Jodie Foster who I very much respect. However the film didn't live up to it's enormous potential to be both politically relevant and the best kind of Hollywood with two powerful stars and a timely script.
George and Julia are as interesting, beautiful and giving as ever as is the rest of the cast. But the story never really packs the emotional punch promised in the trailer. It builds but never earns the relationships it wants us to believe exist here.
The audience must take several leaps of faith that dilute the film's potency little by little until the ending is actually the least interesting part of the film.
