Review of Mona Lisa Smile (2003) by Darelle D — 30 Dec 2009
First of all, I saw this for the first time a couple of months ago. I kept putting it off because I thought it was going to be boring. And it surprised me that it wasn't. But, it was so predictable it was bland!
Throughout the whole thing I just kept wondering if I wrote the script myself because I could just predict every single moment. Even to the very end I was like: and that's gonna happen next...and yes, there it is! I hate it when movies are like that. And if they are, impress me in another way and choose actors that move me no matter what.
I must say I usually enjoy Julia Roberts, but this was such an easy role for her, it was pathetic. This required no effort on her part whatsoever and it showed...oh did it show!
I give this movie a 40%; 20% for not boring me and 20% for the adaptation of the time. I liked the costumes and the cars and in general I like period movies. I enjoyed being curious as to what the girls would wear next. But as any good movie, it shouln't be about the fashion.
In conclusion, not worth the time, boredom or not.
