Review of Mon Oncle (1958) by Caque A — 26 Jul 2009
Several stray dogs wander around an alley, the words "Mon Oncle" scrawled on the wall in chalk. It's the perfect opening for a film that, for me, never hit an off note. Hulot is charming in a way that evades even Chaplin and Keaton. He hasn't a care in the world. Even the constant mishaps (and they are constant) that surround him seem to entertain him. He's happy to be alive and entertained by the nonsense everyday life can sometimes bring about.
The shots are brilliant, the comedy is brilliant. I think I may have found a new addition to my all time favorite films list!
