Review of Mon Oncle (1958) by Joe L — 04 Jul 2010
A kind of sequel to 'mr. hulot's holiday' that places our befuddled hero in the midst of a culture clash between old and new france - a ridiculous, minimalistic yet over-designed, technologically-pimped out house that is the source of nearly every joke in the film.
once again, tati creates a masterpiece of sound design, costume design, use of color, foley editing (each character's shoes make distinct sounds on the concrete), and exquisitely choreographed wide shots.
