Review of Mon Oncle (1958) by Alexander C — 12 Nov 2012
Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle is the second film where we follow the clumsy Monsieur Hulot. This time the theme is technology, a world in constant change with all kind of machines that you have to adjust to.
In this film Hulot is the brother-in-law of a successful business man who lives in a high-tech house with all kinds of practical and unnecessary equipment. The contrast here is the Hulot lives in the lower class part of the city and always gets into trouble with the machines.
This is truly an inventive comedy with a lot of mechanics and slapstick like in Chaplin's Modern Times. Thumbs up.
