Review of Moms' Night Out (2014) by Rico S — 24 Sep 2015
As a Christian who doesn't care for the increasingly poor entertainment options being offered, I've been cautiously optimistic whenever a new "Christian" movie is released. I want them to be good, I want them to succeed. More quality options benefit everyone. But "Mom's Night Out" is not a quality production. As others have noted, it feels like a poor sitcom stretched out to 90 minutes. The writing and acting are universally poor, and the entire premise of the movie is that tired trope of the harried housewife and her man-child husband - a plot device that ceased being clever or funny somewhere around the third season of "Home Improvement", let alone two decades later.
I refuse to give a movie a good score or any more of my hard earned money simply because it's morally inoffensive or nominally "Christian." Kendricks/Erwins/whomever - you need to step up your game, stop relying on worn-out cliches and man-bashing if you want me to spend another penny on any of your work.
