Review of Mommie Dearest (1981) by Brock A — 25 Feb 2013
Whether the story in this movie is real or not, it's the best dramatic movie ever made. It really is. And seriously, the child actress that played Christina deserved an Oscar for that performance. The way she delivers the line "Jesus Christ" on the bathroom floor covered in AJAX. Arguably the best child performance ever put to film. And of course Faye Dunaway, this was the role of her life.
This movie has it all. There are two ways to watch it. If you watch it alone it's a serious drama about child abuse that you just won't believe. If you watch it in a group people will be laughing at how extreme some of the scenes are.
Why hasn't Hollywood remade this yet? The book focuses more on Christina, the movie is a bit more about Joan Crawford.
Also every second, every word in this movie adds to the story. Listen carefully to it all. I've watching this about 200 times and get something new out of it again and again.
