Review of Mom and Dad Save the World (1992) by Robert H — 13 Jan 2011
What happens when you combine the fantastical imagination of The Wizard of Oz with the zany comedy stylings of Beetlejuice and National Lampoons all set in a scifi setting? Well, you might end up with Mom and Dad Save the World.
While the film is filled with total bumblings (it's filled with dumb humour... literally), it does show promise. There are aspects of the film that are very Monty Pythonesque and the cast is phenomenal. Eric Idle, Kathy Ireland, Jon Lovitz, Jeffrey Jones, Teri Garr and Wallace Shawn are all big names and great character actors. It's too bad that the film wasn't better. If you have kids, they'll likely love this film. It has a mentality and intelligence that is right on their level.
