Great fun, if a little derivative. By which I mean it's kind of like The Happening, except instead of survival instinct being switched off, it's parental instinct. And instead of poignant, it's hilarious.
You can't fault it for being over-the-top and not taking itself seriously. The subject matter, not to mention Nic Cage, would be intolerable otherwise. Just sit back and enjoy the gruesome absurdity.
