Review of Molly's Girl (2012) by G H — 04 Apr 2013
A nearly perfect movie. Great cinematography, beautiful and appropriate music, but mostly very unique and genuine characters. The only real fake is the publicist, and I cringed that they made him so sleazy, but even he is genuine in his sleaziness.
I expected some kind of morality play, but even people with despicable beliefs are real and human and genuine, and we are even shown why they are that way. I kept expecting cop outs our cliches, but the movie is one pleasant surprise after another.
I would disagree with the movie info, though. There is no "passionate conversation." Where did they get that? There's just alcohol. And it's not "consistently funny." It's amusing while being "consistently interesting," which is so much better.
It's not even a "romantic comedy," for crying out loud. It's a character study for the 21st Century, with no cheap tricks and no easy answers. It's what I want out of a movie and seldom find.
