Review of Molly's Game (2017) by Dave S — 05 Jun 2018
An Olympic skier has a career ending injury, uses her wits to host high stakes poker games, becomes very successful, and then gets caught by the FBI.
Pros:
- Interesting, engaging, compelling, emotional, smart, never boring.
- Great performance by Jessica Chastain.
- Great dialogue.
Cons:
- The whole movie is only from Molly's perspective.
- Molly is painted in the best possible light.
- Molly still thinks she did nothing wrong.
Final Thoughts:
Based on the memoir Molly's Game: The True Story of the 26-Year-Old Woman Behind the Most Exclusive, High-Stakes Underground Poker Game in the World by Molly Bloom. The movie feels like an old Martin Scorcese film. Best movie I've seen in a long time.
