Review of Molly's Game (2017) by Jedidiah F — 11 Jan 2018
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. The two most prominent actors, Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba were perfect in their roles.
Very generalized plot line spoilers ahead, skip this paragraph if you just want to know my thoughts about the movie overall.
The movie is about a young woman who has a tragic accident which in turn leads to a detour in her life plan. She gets drawn into the world of private poker games with celebrities and high powered businessmen. Eventually she ends up in trouble with the law. Enter Idris Elba as her righteous lawyer. He works to get her out of trouble while fighting her need to protect her former and sometimes horrible former clients.
The writing of Aaron Sorkin is superb as always. If you know his work, you won't be disappointed. I have to say his directorial debut wasn't bad either. Although I'm no expert on direction (I care more about plot and writing). This movie was also based on the real story of Molly Bloom. If half of it is true, its damn amazing. Molly is truly a remarkable woman in the film. The overall plot is amazing and has a satisfying ending. The main theme is about a woman struggling with psychological issues while trying to run her life in the world of poker and later get out of trouble with the FBI.
I highly recommend this film. Excellent acting, great dialogue, plot twists, drama, and a satisfying end.
