Review of Modern Times (1936) by David L — 31 May 2014
With strong direction, brisk pace, very relevant story and excellent acting, Modern Times is also filled with charming characters, superb humor and beautiful optimistic ending. It is sometimes sentimental, at times hilarious, but always important look at industrialization, one which is tonally consistent and wonderfully directed.
It is quite possibly the best film of 1936, one of the very best Chaplin's works and one of the best movies of the decade. This is a true masterpiece.
