Review of Modern Times (1936) by Jonathan P — 16 Mar 2012
As with most Chaplin flicks it has its appeal and its laugh-out-loud moments, but it also wears thin rather quickly (even at it's short run time). Chaplin can make you laugh with some of his antics but his "little tramp" character can be quite annoying.
We laugh at the situations that he finds himself in but his gimmick wears thin when it is his characters ill will that leads him into the predicaments. Modern Times is fun to watch and one of the better silents but not one of the best.
