Review of Moana (2016) by Greg R — 22 Feb 2017
This is one of the best Disney movie in all fields. Moana has stunning visuals, extraordinary scenes and wonderful songs. On top of that it features three characteristics not to be found in most Disney films: 1. It has originality because the female protagonist does not fall in love with the male counterpart so it escapes from the usual formula of female princess falls in love In this case Moana learns how to chart her own path in life. 2) The timing of every scene, every song, every joke, every moment of the movie is EXACTLY CORRECT! This is so amazing. Have you watched Zootopia? It is an awesome film too but the jokes and cultural references at some point where either uneeded or too much. 3) This movie had originality blended with tradition. Whilst Moana does have an influence from her Polynesian tradition and anscestors similarly to how Mulan does in Disney's Mulan, Moana does not strictly stick with the traditional rules even at the end (like Mulan left the army) but Moana actually makes a difference by (spoiler alert: convinving her tribe to migrate).
Everything is memorable in this movie. I have not liked all the songs in a Disney movie ever since the very first Disney's Lion King and Moana made me to love all of the songs. The phrases are catchy, the puns are not corny or cheesy, the jokes are original, the reactions are hysterical at some points but without rediculing the protagonists, even the dumb chicken gets the needed respect and love. I can say most certainly that Moana is a movie crafted with lots of love and care. My respects for Disney! <3.
