Review of Moana (2016) by Steve C — 14 Jan 2018

This was excellent. Good if familiar story but creative and well-written. I'm late to the Lin Manuel-Miranda party and not an obsessive but I did think the music was great. A little wink winky at times with the crab thing but generally avoided too much silliness with sidekicks, common day goofiness, and even - refreshingly - love interests.

But most of all, the animation is just incredible now with what they can do with hair, water, and especially facial expressions. Moana as written, drawn, and voiced is just such a winning and appealing character.

Who is that young actress? A real and gutsy find. My new favorite Disney princess, and a great movie for the girls - or anybody.
