Review of Moana (2016) by Virgonoshaka — 12 May 2017
This movie is everything I've come to expect from a Disney movie, with the good and bad that comes with that. From the excellent animation, good to great music, interesting and clearly well researched character models, but also with a pretty predictable and non-risk story that is the part with a traditional disney movie, and all the tropes and cliches you expect (from the animal sidecharacters, the "funny" one song, the heroes having a fallout, and the misunderstood character that wants more, and even disney making fun of itself).
So all in all, it's disney doing disney, embracing their method that almost all the time works, and produces quality works, but comes with the baggage of everything that came before. Something that on other circumstances could be considered a great or even excellent animated movie, for the house of the mouse ends up being average.
So all in all, with a couple of songs that i'm humming right now, some memorable character moments, and a story that I knew every step of the way what was going to happen, this ends up being a good movie, but that doesn't go that far beyond the reef.
For fans of disney or just a good day in family watching, definitely recommended. For someone that is not that much into the traditional animated movies, maybe give it a checking, but nothing you haven't seen before.
