Review of Moana (2016) by Zinc Z — 06 Mar 2017
I had high expectations for this movie and wanted to like it, but overall I didn't think it was an impressive movie.
The bad.
The whole basis for the plot didn't make sense. If the ocean wanted to transfer Te Fiti's heart back to Te Fiti, it could have just done that itself without getting people involved. It seemed like it just wanted to create heroes, but then the heroism ends up feeling cheapened if it feels unnecessary. The ocean also could have helped them fight the lava monster by lifting itself up to splash it. Instead, Moana and Maui almost died countless times. They succeeded in their mission mostly not due to good planning but due to extraordinary luck.
