Why was this film so undeservedly bashed? Why are there so many rotten reviews for it? This is a very entertaining Christmas film in the great screwball tradition. Hell, if I could, I'd adapt this film for the stage and put on a yearly production.
The cast is a delight: Steve Martin and Mara Wilson have a charming chemistry as Phil and Catherine, Adam Sandler makes one of his first film appearances here and it's funnier than anything I saw in Billy Madison, and you've got Madeline Kahn, Juliette Lewis, and Anthony LaPaglia rounding out this oddball troupe.
It's heartwarming, funny, and contains all of the golden trademarks of Nora Ephron's work in her prime. Check it out.
