Review of Mistress America (2015) by Dawdlingpoet — 25 Nov 2021
This is a film that might either bore and/or irritate you or that you like, for its understated optimism and laidback side to it. I liked the inner dialogue (narration) provided. I suppose it appealed to me as I felt I could relate to the main character, a quieter person. I could feel her discomfort in certain scenes. I liked the music played, which was mostly 80s-90s music, music of my generation, although the main characters say their in their 20s.
If your not keen on middle class twenty somethings talking about any number of things, going from one casual conversation to another, then this may well bore you. I don't tend to be too keen on that sort of film but this one did appeal to me regardless. If your unlikely to relate to, or be interested in, either of the main characters (the extroverted, out-spoken socialite Brooke and the quiet and unassuming Tracy) then this will likely not be for you but otherwise its worth a watch, so I'd recommend it on that basis.
