Review of Mister Roberts (1955) by Catherine Y — 09 Apr 2009
I just have trouble watching movies that are filmed like stage productions. I know that there's all these Hollywood greats in there and it's fantastic that its filmed on location. But the performances (except for Fonda) are amped up to read from the back of a theater, and viewing those performances on a TV screen just makes them overblown and cartoony (sorry that goes for you too Cagney).
The ending is abrupt and overly dramatic/unrealistic. But its hard not to love the antics that the crew get up to.
