Review of Mississippi Grind (2015) by Prentice S — 02 Oct 2015
I honestly can't decide how I feel about "Mississippi Grind." On the one hand, you have fantastic performances from Ben Mendelsohn and Ryan Reynolds, as they play gamblers traveling their way from Iowa to New Orleans.
Both of them show up and give their characters meaty emotion; but the downside is that both characters are so utterly despicable throughout the entire movie. Both are excruciatingly selfish (Mendelsohn's character tries to steal from his ex-wife's sock drawer to pay a gambling debt) and by the end, you aren't even sure if they've learned a lesson from their endless, foolish gambling.
It's certainly an interesting film, but it's not one I'd ever feel the need to see again.
