Atmospheric, dialogue rich, and authentically heartfelt-Mississippi Grind proves to be a hidden gem in the road film and gambling genre, offering interesting character insights, terrific performances and a nuanced approach to storytelling that doesn't spoonfeed the audience, rather unfolds as the characters are so apt to do themselves.
It's low-key ending may be off-putting to some, but in the end its themes become accentuated in a way true of its main characters, played beautifully by Ryan Reynolds and Ben Mendelsohn-in what undoubtedly will prove to be his best performance yet.
