Review of Mississippi Burning (1988) by Patrick K — 04 Aug 2008
Hey no matter what you think this is a well made movie. it was an important piece in forming my angry left wing conscience as a youngster and i'll never forget that. it's only real flaw is that the fbi were never the good guys in the civil rights struggle.
some people, such as howard zinn no less, have challenged the film's historicity (yeah that's a word jackass) for portreying blacks as passive. did you watch the movie? blacks are hardly passive.
..they are abused and scared, which as far as I know is completely accurate, yeah I want open rebellion too but it just didn't happen. the scariest thing about this period in our nation's history is that tons of these fuckers are still alive, and their children are the ones in power in the south, and their grandchildren are those assholes that spew all sorts of racist crap behind the anonymity of the internet.
