Alan Parker's "Mississippi Burning" is one of the most engaging and enthralling film's of its genre. Its subject and content is so powerful and so mighty that it invokes constant emotions from its audience throughout its time length. Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe give great performances, leading to an all around great film.

Two detectives are sent down to Mississippi to investigate the murder of three civil rights workers. Throughout their investigation, they must overcome the constant barrage of racist, xenophobic rhetoric from not only the towns people, but from the local police as well. The movies premise sets up the film to be not only a great film regarding civil liberties, but a great thriller as well. Truly good stuff here.

The movies is notable for its performances, which are absolutely astounding, from every aspect. Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe are absolutely flawless from start to finish. They both give powerhouse performances here, and its probably some of the best that you'll ever see them do. Another actor in this film that I was particularly fond of was Brad Dourif, who I felt did an excellent job as the deputy. He was truly great, and I feel that he's one of those underrated actors who deserves more credit than he receives.

The one thing that I felt constantly during this movie was my heart racing. And that's whats so great about it. This movie doesn't let up for a single second. It is so powerful that it will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout its duration. With some wonderful performances, great music, and great cinematography, "Mississippi Burning" is a picture that will leave a strong mark on you for its capacity to keep you hooked, both mentally and psychologically. Definitely a film to check out.
