Review of Mission to Mars (2000) by Eric On His Fantasy Quest V — 01 Mar 2010
For centuries we've searched for the origin of life on Earth, but we've been looking on the wrong planet. In the year 2020, the first manned mission to Mars lands safely on the red planet. But the Martian landscape harbors a bizarre and shocking secret that leads to a mysterious disaster so catastrophic, it decimates the crew. In an investigation NASA launches the Mars Recovery Mission to bring back survivors - if there are any - while facing nearly insurmountable dangers and making an amazing discovery there.
Directed by Brian DePalma, Mission To Mars features great acting performances from the following cast:
1.) Gary Sinise (Jim McConnell).
2.) Tim Robbins (Woody Blake).
3.) Jerry O'Connell (Phil Ohlmyer).
4.) Don Cheadle (Luke Graham).
The science fiction film genre always has had film titles about invaders from Mars, but filming man invading Mars for exploration purposes is something completely different. While NASA has yet to plan on a real Mission To Mars someday, we're taken to a real-life scenario when doing a manned mission there always has its challenges even though it could benefit science by perhaps feeding the world's growing population. The thought of a mission is making my stomach growl, but let's forget that: Watching the film really kept me on the edge of my seat as if I was rocketed to the planet. It helped me see how it is possible to find life on Mars and why they vanished so fast. I heard that the special effects (SFX) are so impressive that its creators had to use a mixture of cement and paint to recreate the Martian landscape in British Columbia since they couldn't film the real thing on Mars. (And no, I did not make that up!) Those actors here were like a real astronautical team that they gave help between each other as if it was a friendship. Thank you Mr. Sinise for showing your strength to walk on a strange world - every future astronaut in grade school is impressed your performance.
