Review of Mission to Mars (2000) by Rachel M — 03 Feb 2009
Easily the better of the two 'Mars' movies released in 2000, this film manages to make DePalma look like a normal director, which in this case is a good thing. The critical thing it has that Red Planet missed is a sense of wonder, something that should never be missing from any movie about space travel.
The plot naturally veers into the surreal and some of the musical cues really try to hard to force you to have feelings, but it manages to hit all the right notes even when the plot isn't firing on all gears.
