Review of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015) by Elliot F — 01 Jun 2016
A better than expected sequel to an ageing franchise - by number 5, audiences are usually left wanting more but this is a very good effort. Some scenes remain questionable - the opening sequence with the plane is outrageous.
However, these aside, the plot twists with enough vitality to maintain suspense although it has moved quite far away from the trickery of earlier films. The trademark MI use of masks has been maintained without it dominating progression.
It's not on the same planet as Bond but it's not supposed to be. Its more like a watered down version of Bourne but on par to its quality. Overall, it is everything you could need or expect from a blockbuster but executed in a way which defies the majoirity of its genre.
